Grid congestion is increasingly limiting the growth of manufacturing companies. Peak Shaving makes it possible to operate a powerful electric press brake on a significantly smaller grid connection.
In many regions, a new or upgraded electrical connection is difficult to obtain, expensive or simply not available in the short term. At the same time, it is normally the short power peaks during bending that determine the required capacity of the grid connection, even though the average energy consumption of an electric press brake is relatively low.
Peak Shaving combines proven E-Brake technology with local energy storage and intelligent energy management. Instead of drawing peak power directly from the grid, energy is stored locally and released precisely when it is needed.
More and more production sites are facing:
The machine reduces the peak power required during bending by drawing part of the required energy from a local energy buffer instead of directly from the grid.
This enables the E-Brake to operate on a significantly smaller grid connection without compromising performance.
The concept is currently being demonstrated on a 35-ton E-Brake, with the ambition of ultimately operating the machine on a single-phase 230V/16A connection instead of a heavier three-phase industrial connection.
At production sites where grid capacity is restricting growth, Peak Shaving creates the opportunity to install high-performance bending technology without having to wait for major electrical infrastructure upgrades.
The local energy buffer also provides a more stable power supply for the machine itself.
Peak Shaving therefore builds on the sustainable positioning of the E-Brake series: not only energy-efficient in operation, but also better prepared for an energy landscape in which available and stable grid capacity is increasingly becoming a limiting factor.
