SafanDarley recently engineered a custom shear solution for a specialist aerospace application, extending the functionality of an existing machine.
The machine is used as a dedicated solution for cutting 60 mm strips of Hastelloy X, with a material thickness of approximately 0.25 to 0.3 mm. Due to the thin and specialized nature of the material, the application required a cutting setup that offered both accuracy and stability across the full blade length.
To meet this requirement, SafanDarley engineered and supplied a special hold-down piece. This enables the operator to cut across the length of the blade, rather than being limited to the standard hold-down points.
The result is a practical, customer-specific modification that allows the machine to be used efficiently for this dedicated strip-cutting process.
This project highlights SafanDarley’s ability to adapt existing machine technology to highly specific production requirements. By combining robust equipment with application-focused engineering, SafanDarley supports manufacturers in creating solutions that fit their exact production process.
