SafanDarley is the leading global specialist in the construction and development of press brakes and shears for sheet metal. SafanDarley covers all disciplines from R&D and engineering to manufacturing and assembly; along with marketing, sales, technology and training in addition to their helpdesk and service department. 

Position Summary:

The Application & Service Engineer is responsible for providing tier-2 support to our distributors, as the distributors provide tier-1 support to the customer. The Application & Service Engineer will assist in resolving an issue if the tier-1 distributor is unable, or if there is a new application they might not have familiarity with. Support will include installation, maintenance and repairs needed for SafanDarley equipment at the distributor site and will require frequent travel within the USA, Canada and occasionally Mexico. The Application & Service Engineer will also provide operating and general maintenance training on machines as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting, installation, start-up, maintenance and field modifications for equipment either remotely or on-site
  • Provide general training for distributors on operation and maintenance of equipment  
  • Conduct regular check-in communications with distributors and customers to ensure equipment is performing correctly 
  • Answer calls from distributors regarding service orders and ensure proper documentation is recorded in database
  • Help where needed within the business including supporting helpdesk and parts department, unloading/loading of equipment in warehouse  

Travel Responsibilities:

  • Approximately 50% travel within USA, Canada, and Mexico will be required; along with travel to SafanDarley headquarters in the Netherlands for training 

Success Criteria:

  • Timely resolution of distributor and customer issues
  • Relationships with distributor and customer network 
  • A proactive mentality along with strong analytical skills and excellent customer service 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Excellent Analytical and Communication Skills 
  • Associate degree and 3-5 years of field service experience 
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics and communicate complex technical issues in layman’s terms
  • Strong computer skills
  • Proficient use of hand and power tools; electronic test/calibration equipment
  • Ability to travel frequently; valid passport and driver’s license 

Desired Experience and Traits:

  • Working experience as a Service Engineer or Field Technician in an industrial setting; ideally with metal press brakes or similar equipment 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional need to unload/load stock machines by operating an overhead crane and forklifts
  • Constant use of hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking
  • Frequent handling of materials
